Bengaluru GAFX 2018, India’s premier event on animation, visual effects, gaming and comics (AVGC) will take place at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru on the 18, 19 and 20 May 2018. The event (formerly called ABAI Fest & Summit) is organised by ABAI under the aegis of the Department of Innovation and Technology, Government of Karnataka.
The main agenda for the 2018 edition of GAFX is focused on creating more opportunities and to help establish a strong foothold for the community in the AVGC sector. Keeping this in mind, GAFX 2018 is hosting one of a kind ‘Art-Animation-Tech Competition‘ event wherein participants showcase their creativity and technical skills to compete for the coveted Bengaluru GAFX 2018 Champion’s title.
The competition has a category for both Professionals and Students.
If you think you have the skills, creativity and endurance to go through time bound challenges, then this competition is definitely for you.
One roof, multiple competitions, thousands of participants, one champion! Set in a controlled environment, the participants get to unleash their skill in various categories and take home exciting prizes and be deemed as Champion of GAFX till the next edition.

Rules and Regulations

To participate in the competition, , it is mandatory to REGISTER The relevant guidelines are as follows:

● The last date for registrations is 5th May, 2018. The shortlisted participants will be informed by 13th May, 2018..
● Shortlisted participants will have to pay a nominal registration fee, for each competition entry they are selected in, to cover costs of the supplies and other resources. Last date of payment is 15th May, 2018. Invalid applications will not be entertained.
● Participants applying under the students’ category must carry their original and valid student photo ID.
● If you are both a student (valid student ID required) and working professional, you will be qualified as a student and we will also require details of your current employment.
● Guidelines pertaining to logistics, software’s and supplies will be shared closer to the competition date.
● Native Puppets will be providing an exclusive Character Rig for the Character Animation Competition
● Offensive, sexual, religious, regional or derogatory content will not be entertained. Your creations will be judged by the experts from the industry.
● Shortlisted participants are to make their own travel and stay arrangements. Please make sure you reach the city, a day in prior to the event i.e. 18th May, 2018 so that you are well rested and have all your queries resolved before the start of the competition on 19th May, 2018.
● The competitions involve strenuous working conditions and each participant must approach the competition in a healthy and friendly manner. Organizers will not be held responsible under any circumstances
● During the competition the organizers will provide limited sleeping bags and refreshments to the participants on a first come first serve basis.
● Please note, locker facilities will not be available and you are responsible for your own belongings.
● Mentoring is an integral part of the competition. There will be industry experts around the competition floor to offer mentoring at certain stages of the competition to all participants. Participants are advised to make the most out of this opportunity and learn from the mentor.


Important Dates

  • 5th May, 2018 : Last date to register for the Art and Animation competition
  • 13th May, 2018 : Announcement of shortlisted participants for Art and Animation competition with the entry fee details and mode of payment.
  • 15th May, 2018 : Last date for payment of registration fee by shortlisted participants.
  • Theme of the competition and other specific details pertaining to the categories will be revealed just before the start of the competition.
  • The Registration for “Art & Animation” competition will be open till 11:59 PM, 10th May, 2018.
  • Winners will be announced during the award ceremony on the evening of 20th of May, 2018.

Judging Criteria

1. A panel of experts from the Industry will judge the competition.
2. Click on the respective categories for the judging criteria.
3. The decision of the judges is final and no discussion will be entertained.
4. You will be purely judged based on your skills.
5. The planning process of the participant during a competition will also be one of the deciding factors in the judging process.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Participants must be 18 years and above.
  2. Entry must be made only by the participants entering the competition and should fill up the respective registration form.
  3. The organizers will not be responsible in case any registration has been ‘submitted but NOT received’ – reasons attributed to technical issues or any such reason. No responsibility can be accepted for entries lost or delayed due to technical issues. An acknowledgement e-mail will be sent for successful entry submissions.   4. The organizers reserves the right to amend or alter the terms of competitions and reject entries from entrants not entering the spirit of the competition.
  5. The winner agrees to the use of his or her name, photograph and will cooperate with any other reasonable requests made by the organizers of the competition relating to any post-event publicity.
  6. Use of a false name or incorrect details will result in disqualification.
  7. Competitions rules, guidelines may be modified or withdrawn at any time, as deemed necessary by the organizers. Judge’s decision will be final.
  8. By entering this participants, participants agree to release and hold harmless the organizers of the competition, sponsor, supporters and their respective employees, representatives, from any liability for any loss or damage of any kind to the entrant or any other person in connection with this competition or participation in any competition related activities, including but not limited to the use or misuse of a prize or any portion of a prize.
  9. The organizers of the competition reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, cancel or suspend the competition due to external circumstances which may arise and are beyond the reasonable control of the competition organizer.
  10. The organizers retain the right to refuse or revoke entry to any participant, where they believe that accepting the entry could prejudice the event, the promotion of the event, organization of the event, their sponsors, associates or staff.
  11. Respective prize sponsors will be responsible for its timely distribution.
